About Veja

Founded in 2004

VEJA was founded in 2004 by Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion in Paris, France, with a radical premise: to create sneakers that are both stylish and demonstrably ethical at every step of the supply chain. The brand's name — meaning "look" in Portuguese — reflects its commitment to transparency. Unlike virtually every other sneaker brand, VEJA allocates zero budget to traditional advertising; instead, those resources fund organic cotton from agro-ecological farms in Brazil, wild rubber tapped sustainably from the Amazon rainforest by seringueiro communities, and fair-trade manufacturing in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The brand's minimalist, understated aesthetic — typified by the signature "V" logo on the side panel — was deliberately designed to transcend trends and seasons. VEJA's sneakers use materials including vegetable-tanned leather, recycled polyester from plastic bottles, B-mesh (made from recycled plastic bottles), and even innovative alternatives like cork, jute, and sugar cane EVA. The Esplar, Campo, and V-10 models — named after Brazilian NGOs and environmental initiatives — have become globally recognized by consumers who seek products that align with their values without sacrificing design.

VEJA has grown from a small Parisian startup selling hundreds of pairs per year to a global brand selling millions, stocked at premium retailers including Galeries Lafayette, Nordstrom, and Matches Fashion, and worn by celebrities including Meghan Markle, Emma Watson, and Eddie Redmayne. In an industry grappling with sustainability, VEJA represents a proof of concept: that a sneaker can be beautiful, desirable, and produced with radical fairness to both people and the planet — all without a single euro spent on advertising.
